Attention Parents of High Schoolers

Passing on this info. for those of you with high schoolers…

A potent SAT Prep Class is conveniently located in Langley! It is taught by SAT expert Mark Wahl, well known South Whidbey math learning specialist and many-years seasoned Seattle test prep mentor. (He’s coached literally thousands of adult GRE test preparers in the 1990s and 2000s in Seattle). This will be his tenth spring Whidbey SAT prep class. Get great help for acing both the language and math aspects of the SAT. It ends in time for the June 1 test administered on the island. (Register for that by May 12).

About the Prep: Even students with high grades can be spun and thrown off by the particular terminology, word trickery, answer-decoys, and the pressure of a timed test. The SAT language, math, and writing sections are programmed shrewdly to disorient almost any level of student. Test-anxiety can also start to play a part. All of these aspects are addressed, along with test strategies and a conceptual review of grammar, math and writing principles.

Test content: There are 9 sections on sentence structure, paragraph editing, grammar, sentence completion, reading comprehension, essay writing, and a range of mathematics concepts. Math includes pre-algebra (like fractions, percents, story problems), some main geometry concepts, many first-year algebra skills, and a handful of skills from Algebra 2, like functions and fractional powers. No trig or calculus! BUT: All skills, whether lower or higher, have spin, trickery and complexity woven in to make them NOT like textbook questions.
