2012 Legislative Session in Olympia Over

From the League of Education Voters:

With lawmakers finally coming to agreement on the budget, the 2012 Legislative Session wrapped up this morning. And what a session it was!
Some highlights:

·The Legislature passed a budget that keeps critical programs for kids intact.

·The Teacher/Principal Evaluation bill passed with bipartisan support – 46-3 in the Senate and 82-16 in the House!

·WaKIDS – which was a major part of Washington’s successful Race to the Top – Early Learning Challenge application – will be expanded into more classrooms.

·A push to get rid of the writing assessment part of the state’s  graduation requirements was ultimately rejected.

We owe a big thank you to legislators who never lose sight of their paramount duty, education.
