We all know the quality of the teacher in the classroom makes a tremendous difference on a student’s academic growth. The future of our children depends on having an excellent teacher in every classroom.
That’s why The League of Education Voters are supporting legislation, Senate Bill 5399 andHouse Bill 1609, to allow school districts to keep their most effective teachers when they must layoff or RIF (reduction-in-force) teachers due to budget cuts. Currently, these decisions have been made almost entirely based on seniority or a “last in, first out” basis. Instead, the bills would allow school districts to keep the most effective teachers in the classroom, and make seniority a secondary consideration.
